Even cold weather up north doesn’t outweigh wallet worries, say regional
hoteliers, who report lower booking rates at South Florida hotels as a result of the  recession. In October,
both Broward and Miami-Dade counties saw consecutive months of
declining hotel taxes for the first time since 2002. By contrast, the South Florida counties collected about 60 percent of the year’s $110 million hotel tax revenue in the first five
months of 2007.
