Mortgage fraudster gets almost four years

Wellington resident Orlando M. Gonzalez, 55, was sentenced to three
years and 10 months in prison and must pay $446,000 in restitution
after pleading guilty to federal charges that he obtained more than
$3.6 million in fraudulent mortgages and that he committed identity theft. Gonzalez
was charged with engaging in a scheme to obtain mortgages for a Wellington house by using straw purchasers and phony documentation, including false loan applications
and employment information, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for
the Southern District in Miami.
