Broward hotel developer could be replaced

Broward County wants FaulknerUSA, developer of a $400 million convention center hotel project, to prove it can overcome legal problems in Texas, or the county may replace it with a competitor. County commissioners chose FaulknerUSA and Hilton Hotels over Marriott and Hensel Phelps Construction in November 2007. Faulkner’s troubles include a bank’s suing to collect $6.1 million in loans, a $6.6 million court judgment and millions more in claims by irate subcontractors.
