A pair of massive real estate developments planned for Sunrise have
Broward County neighbor Plantation concerned the town will get all
of the projects’ headaches and none of their benefits. Officials from both cities
met Wednesday to address whether developers of Metropica and Westerra
should pay impact fees to Plantation. Metropica, planned for western
Sunrise, is projected to include 2,500 condo units, 300 townhouses and 1.2
million square feet of office and retail space. Nearby Westerra would
have 1,750 residences, 300 hotel rooms and 2 million square feet of
office, retail and industrial space. Plantation officials estimate the new
developments will strain parks, police and emergency services, and have
discussed a $2.16 million impact fee.
