The Hallandale Beach City Commission paid more than appraised value for
the land occupied by the Higher Vision Ministries and the Eagle’s Wings
Development Center in the city’s impoverished northwest area. The
commission paid $235,000 for the plot, $35,000 more than the city’s
November appraisal of the land, nearly $90,000 more than the value
listed by the Broward property appraiser and $190,000 more than the
church paid for the land in 2001. Hallandale commissioner Anthony
Sanders also runs the church and social services center. He abstained
from the vote, but Commissioner Keith London said the city should have
waited before proceeding with the purchase.
