Mobile home park razed

Davie mobile home park Palma Nova evicted its tenants in August, and only a few stragglers remain as demolition of unrelocated homes continues. The landlord, park owner Austin Forman, has not announced plans for the property on the east side of Davie, but the resulting exodus has been devastating to the area: Enrollment at nearby Davie Elementary has plummeted to 850 from 1,000. Aggressive development has taken a toll on these modest communities. Florida lost 27,769 mobile homes from 1998 to 2008 because of park closures, according to state records. Broward County lost 1,977 mobile homes, Palm Beach County lost 301 and Miami-Dade County lost 2,860.
