Davie Commons dominates mayoral race

The March 10 election for mayor of Davie is between incumbent Tom Truex, a Republican, and former Councilwoman Judith Paul, a Democrat, but the vote won’t be about political affiliations. Most at issue in the election is the future of a planned 150-acre shopping and hotel plaza that’s divided the community of 83,000 residents. Truex wants Davie Commons to go forward, citing the annual $3.5 million tax revenue boost. Paul opposes the project and wants to move commercial development nearer to the South Florida Educational Complex — home to Nova Southeastern University and Broward College.
