Grim view for Midtown Miami’s future

Miami’s plan to revitalize the 56-acre site of the Buena Vista railyards has slowed after a promising start. It’s now known as Midtown Miami, and has 470,000 square feet of multi-story retail space, including big-box stores, with nearly 3,000 indoor parking spaces; about 1,000 residential units in three high-rise buildings; and tree-lined streets that are connected to the grid of the surrounding neighborhoods. But vacancies plague the shopping center, many condo units remain unsold, and progress on a planned entertainment complex has come to a temporary halt.
