The Florida Marlins are now the Miami Marlins, and will move into a new stadium in Little Havana after years of political and financial wrangling. The Miami-Dade County Commission approved the plan yesterday after a 9-4 vote, following more than nine hours of debate. The decision elicited cheers and hugs, including one between Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and team president David Samson. Monday’s vote came four days after the team won similar approval at Miami City Hall. The plans will finance a $515 million ballpark and $94 million in parking lots at the former site of the Orange Bowl in Little Havana.
