Statewide home sales rose 20 percent in February while South Florida’s
existing home sales skyrocketed at greater rates. Low prices and
sinking mortgage rates spurred sales, driving up purchases of existing
homes in Miami-Dade County by 68 percent from last year. Broward County
had a 39 percent increase. Palm Beach County sales rose 33 percent.
Among the state’s medium-size markets, the Fort Pierce-Port St. Lucie
area reported a total of 372 homes sold in February compared to 263
homes a year ago for a 41 percent increase.
