Fixed mortgage rates hit another record low

The average interest rate on a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage hit a new record low nationwide for the week ending today. The rate averaged 4.78 percent, the lowest percentage since 1971, down from last week’s 4.85 percent and the 5.88 percent rate available at this point in 2008. The 15-year fixed-rate loan rate averaged 4.52 percent, the lowest since 1991.
