The state’s top finance officer plans to pull lawyers and lenders together on April 20 to formulate a response to the spiraling number of foreclosures. Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink wants to remind homeowners that there is free legal assistance and allow lawyers to pick the brains of lenders about loan repayment problems that stop short of eviction. Sink said pro bono lawyers have gotten 25,000 calls about foreclosures. Over 1,000 lawyers have offered their time to assist with the crisis.
