Foreclosure cases move to mediation

A pilot program to use mediation rather than the courts debuts May 1, following its development by a statewide judicial task force. The Miami-Dade Circuit Court will be the first location for special negotiations to give homeowners a chance to get loan modifications or other assistance before they lose their homes. The process will also ease the caseload on swamped courts. Miami-Dade alone has 6,000 cases a month in the 11th Circuit Court, said Judge Jennifer Bailey, who led the task force.
