Tourism shows smaller slide

The region’s tourism industry may be reaching bottom, as the rate of decline in key statistics slowed in April. Smith Travel Research said room rates fell 12 percent to $155 a night in Miami-Dade County from a year ago. That’s the lowest rate of decline since January. While that could signal a tapering off for the area’s largest market, the summer discounting season and continuing world recession conditions could pressure rates.
