McCarty sentenced to more than three years in fraud case

Former Palm Beach County Commissioner Mary McCarty was sentenced this morning to three and a half years in prison out of a maximum possible sentence of five years. McCarty was convicted of taking free and heavily discounted resort hotel rooms from Ocean Properties before and after they voted to award the company a $100 million development deal. Former County Commissioner Warren Newell was sentenced to five years in prison on similar corruption charges in January 2008.
