Palm Beach County taxes could rise

County officials next week must consider a property tax increase that could surpass the proposed 13.5 percent hike. County commissioners are scheduled to vote Monday on a possible 15.6 percent increase that proponents say is necessary to make up a $130 million shortfall. The total appraised value of county property fell more sharply than expected, Property Appraiser Gary Nikolits told the county last week.
