Up to 40 Pembroke Pines employees could lose their jobs when the city outsources the Building and Zoning Department to Calvin, Giordano & Associates, a private contractor. The city’s general employees’ union could not persuade department staffers to accept cuts in hours and pensions. Pembroke Pines commissioners will vote on the contract with Calvin, Giordano & Associates June 17, and city employees could lose their jobs as soon as July 1. The city faces a projected $2.9 million deficit.
