County commissioners yesterday rejected developer Prestige Homes’ request to remove the affordable housing requirements from redevelopment plans for the Monterey and Sabal Palm golf courses. Prestige Homes agreed in December 2006 to build affordable homes on the golf courses, but Prestige wanted the requirement waived due to the economic downturn. The commissioners told Prestige that, instead of building affordable homes on the golf courses, the developer could put money into a city affordable housing fund.
