Wood stork not on builders’ lists

The Florida Home Builders Association seeks a change in the status of the wood stork, claiming its listing as an endangered species will keep the building industry from recovering. Builders are prevented from working in areas where the white wading bird lives, but would have more latitude for development if it were listed as threatened instead of endangered. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service spokesperson says the wood stork meets the criteria for a threatened species, but its status wouldn’t change its level of federal protection.
