After disagreements with city officials, architect Frank Gehry is on his way out of a high-profile public park project in Miami Beach, and a Dutch firm known for its urban design may replace him. The firm, West 8, has a reputation for good work on tight budgets. Gehry and the city broke over cost issues of a $13 million park project next to the New World Symphony, which is building a Gehry-designed concert hall behind its Lincoln Road Mall home. The Rotterdam-based West 8 has designed parks and public projects in the Netherlands, Spain, and Singapore. It has commissions for projects in Toronto and on Governor’s Island in New York Harbor.
