Petters home sells for $8.97 million

The Manalapan mansion owned by Thomas Petters sold last week for $9 million to Robert and Suzanne Steinberg. Petters, a Minnesota businessman who lives part-time in Manalapan, is set to go on trial in October for investor and tax fraud, accused of planning to defraud investors of $3.5 billion. Petters purchased the 11,000-square-foot home at 1840 S. Ocean Boulevard for $8.75 million in 2004. Dragana Connaughton of Sotheby’s International Realty was the house’s selling agent. The federal government is currently selling Petters’ other properties.
