Forty-one South Florida residents were arrested earlier this week, on
charges of $40 million worth of mortgage fraud, by a U.S. Attorney’s
Office task force on mortgage fraud formed last summer, Miami New Times reported. The task force filed six indictments, detailing alleged crimes that included faking mortgages to artificially inflate home prices, selling the same properties multiple times to straw buyers and stealing homeowners’ personal information to complete the sales.
