The largest hotel chain in the U.S. is about to get bigger. Marriott International will take over operations for some of its competitors that have been saddled by debt, said CFO Carl Berquist, who declined to specify which brands will be taken over. Marriott intends to add 110,000 rooms to its current tally of 577,000, according to Berquist. Fifty percent of those will be constructed by the chain and 6 percent will be rooms converted from other brands. Berquist indicated that other projects are pending due to high building costs, but the article from Bloomberg did not indicate the nature of those projects.
