The Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office discounted property values for homeowners in the Parkland neighborhood because of defective Chinese drywall, but failed to extend the changes through the rest of the county. It’s now asking homeowners with problems from the building materials to document the defects and preparing to lower taxable values in other areas. Approximately 36,000 homes in Florida may contain defective wallboard. It’s unknown how many Broward County homes are affected. Property Appraiser Lori Parrish said her office is trying to keep pace with the problem.
