Developer Auburn Group resubmitted a smaller version of the affordable rental complex it plans to build in Delray Beach. It has reduced the number of units by 27 percent, and now will build 192 units on 11 acres along Southwest 12th Avenue in the existing Auburn Trace complex, which Auburn owns and operates. Plans for the mixed-income development had drawn widespread community criticism, as critics invoked the specter of Carver Estates, a crime-ridden housing project destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Auburn said the new development is aimed at police officers, teachers and people who earn $20,000 to $50,000.
