Delray Beach officials will give developer Auburn Group more time to build Village Square, a mixed-income development of townhouses and condominiums that will sit on the former location of the crime-ridden Carver Estates public housing project. Auburn planned to build 111 town houses and 216 condominiums — including 53 for work force housing — on 18 acres of land owned by the Delray Beach Housing Authority, but political disagreements have taken the project off track. Auburn Group now plans an alternate project of 192 units that will replace the Auburn Trace development, a rental community.
