Developers and commercial landlords may have a new avenue to challenge their tax assessments in Miami-Dade County. The Miami-Dade County Value Adjustment Board cut its assessment of a property on Flagler Street by more than $11.5 million — nearly 40 percent — based on the idea that the land on which older buildings in the parcel stood was worth less than similar, undeveloped lots. Attorney Barry Sharpe, who acted for Fatima Jebai, owner of the parcel at 251 E. Flagler Street, said the time and cost of demolition, tenant relocation and zoning reduced the value of the land. Jebai will get a $260,000 refund from the county.
