Officials push for Glades inland port

The Palm Beach County Caucus of Black Elected Officials has taken its first formal stand on a policy issue in the group’s nine-year history, urging a plan for a rail-linked warehouse and distribution center in western Palm Beach County. Critics of the so-called inland port say it would hobble restoration of the Everglades. The caucus also wants a plan to chart how the Glades region would recover from the state’s purchase of thousands of acres of U.S. Sugar land. The sale, aimed at restoring the Everglades, would leave many in the Glades region unemployed.
