Loan modifiers in legal crosshairs

The Connecticut Attorney General’s office is investigating West Palm Beach-based First Legal Group, which also operated as Nationwide Home Relief Law Group, a mortgage modification company it said took $750,000 from 200 homeowners without offering help with their loans. The Florida Attorney General’s Office last month froze the assets of Housing Assistance Law Center of Deerfield Beach and ordered the company to stop taking new clients.
