Tax appeals to vary

Miami-Dade County’s Value Adjustment Board has received only about 50 appeals following the mailing of this year’s property tax bills, but the Palm Beach County Clerk and Comptroller’s office isn’t so lucky. They reported that they expect as many as 16,000 petitions from taxpayers disputing their proposed property values this year. That’s a 21 percent increase from the 13,200 appeals filed last year. Miami-Dade board manager Robert Alfaro said that, ultimately, the county’s tally will grow, because many have been filed online and taxpayers have until Sept. 18 to raise objections.
