A New Orleans-based federal judge will set the first trial in hundreds of lawsuits against Chinese drywall makers and installers for January. U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon instructed attorneys to pick six plaintiffs in the plethora of cases, where homeowners in 29 states have claimed the imported products emit sulfur, methane and other chemical compounds that have ruined homes and harmed residents’ health. Around 400 plaintiffs and 20 defendants have filled out forms for the litigation, but Russ Herman, a lead plaintiffs’ lawyer, estimated attorneys represent around 6,000 clients with claims.
