The state plan to advance the $8,000 federal tax credit for first-time home buyers sounds great but hasn’t made much of a difference to South Floridians, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Local housing authorities haven’t gotten the federal money to dispense, which is backing up the process. Since the credits expire in November, it’s more gesture than effective measure to speed up a difficult process. In Palm Beach County, for example, about one-quarter of the $800,000 the county was expecting has come in. Broward County got a bit less than $100,000 of its expected $290,200.
