Simon Property Group founder Melvin Simon dies at 82

Melvin Simon, the founder of the Simon Property Group, the country’s largest publicly traded shopping mall owner, is dead at 82. He also owned the Indiana Pacers team in the National Basketball Association with his brother, Herbert. Simon was a once part-time Manalapan resident, and Simon Properties at one time owned Manalapan’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the Quantum Corporate Park, an industrial and corporate park along Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach. Simon Property Group owns several malls in the area, including the Town Center mall in Boca Raton, the Boynton Beach Mall, the Palm Beach Mall in West Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast Square in Jensen Beach.
