South Florida hotels are beginning to see improvements in the market, according to a report from Smith Travel research. In Fort Lauderdale, September hotel occupancy rose 2 percent from a year ago. It is the first time that measure has risen since April 2008. Daily rates were still down an average of 15 percent, however. In Palm Beach County, occupancy rates dropped by 9 percent over the past year, and daily rates declined by 17 percent in the same period. [Sun Sentinel]
