The arrival of Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, could serve as a beacon for Fort Lauderdale hotels when it begins to use the city as its base next month. The latest Royal Caribbean ship sailed from a shipyard in Finland on Friday and is expected to reach Port Everglades by Nov. 11. The city visitor’s bureau said that with a 5,400-passenger capacity, the Oasis should provide an impetus for more hotel stays and additional visitor spending at the start of the traditional tourist season. Nicki Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, anticipates an increase of 5 percent in overnight stays, based on the occupancy of the new ships. [Sun Sentinel]
