Miami a focal point for Haitian hotel renaissance

The boom in luxury hotel development in the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti is finding favor among potential investors who’ve gathered in Miami. The Oasis, the Karibe Hotel & Convention Center and the renovated El Rancho and Montana hotels have all transformed the luxury hotel landscape and provided potential investors with a new outlet for putting money to work. While the aesthetics evoke Coral Gables or South Beach, the profound shift to stability has made possible development that was unthinkable five years ago during a period of severe political strife. Richard Coles, a Haitian manufacturer, said at a Miami conference on investing in Haiti that the private sector has stabilized and is on solid footing with the government. [Miami Herald]
