Angela Genereux, one of a handful of live-in stagers of luxury homes in South Florida, gets about a two-thirds discount on her rental of a $5,000-a-month waterfront estate. Showhomes, a home management and staging company that set up shop in Fort Lauderdale over the summer, pays people to work with owners of vacant residential properties and their real estate agents to serve as live-in managers. They bring their own furniture and set up house, and it provides a psychological edge in selling, said Don Vanderhoef, owner of Showhomes’ Fort Lauderdale office. Gerry Schilian, a Boca Raton attorney who specializes in foreclosed properties, said using a live-in stager keeps a property more secure than if it were unoccupied. [Sun Sentinel]
