State Rep. Maria Lorts Sachs of Delray Beach is leading legislative efforts to solve the increasing problem of insolvent condominium associations as the foreclosure crisis continues to spiral. She recruited nine South Florida experts to assist in creating legislation to ease the difficulties for remaining condo association members as their neighbors struggle to retain ownership of their units. The team includes leaders of the Delray Alliance, the West Boca Community Council and the Coalition of Boynton West Residential Associations, as well as Scott Tennell, president of the Florida Mortgage Professionals Association. They’ll be working toward proposals that will protect condo and homeowner associations from foreclosure revenue losses and pave the way for them to collect money from owners who simply choose not to pay maintenance fees.
