The Palm Beach Zoo’s new Melvin J. and Claire Levine Animal Care Complex is now gold LEED-certified, and is the first animal hospital of its kind in the state to achieve the designation. The $4.8 million, 10,000-square-foot complex, has 80 solar panels on its reflective rooftop, which was designed to save energy. The property’s outdoor landscaping and irrigation systems, and indoor water-efficient fixtures, are expected to reduce water consumption by 50 percent overall. It was designed by Stuebben Architecture and built by Stiles Construction with 20 percent recycled materials, bamboo flooring and ceiling material, and other eco-friendly products. TRD
