No stranger to mortgage fraud, the Miami metropolitan area seemed, to the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force, the perfect backdrop for the first of its Mortgage Fraud Summits. The series, launched in November 2009 by President Barack Obama, is meant to step up country’s effort to combat financial crimes. The Miami-Fort Launderdale-Pompano Beach region is ranked first in the nation for the number of residents suspected of mortgage fraud, according to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. Participants in the Miami summit included Tony West, Attorney General for the Civil Division, Jeffrey Sloman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Kenneth Donohue, Inspector General of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Karen Spangenberg of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, among others. Times and locations for future Mortgage Fraud Summits have yet to be announced. TRD
