Miami developer Castello Brothers is planning a new residential project on the 14-acre site of a former public hospital in Belle Glade. Glades General Hospital, at 1201 South Main Street, shut down in October when the new $53 million Lakeside Medical Center debuted. Castello, which also owns the Belle Glade Gardens apartment complex, won out over the only other bidder on the site with a $250,000 offer that was accepted by the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. The transaction is expected to close within 60 days. “The plans outlined by [Castello Brothers] will put the property back on the tax rolls and may create additional jobs while renovations are underway,” Health Care District CEO Dwight Chenette said in a statement.
