South Floridians slow on census

Only 32 percent of households in Miami, and about a third of those in
Fort Lauderdale have returned their census forms, a participation rate
that lags the national average of about 46 percent. The numbers are not
limited to South Florida, though, as Tampa and Tallahassee, too, both
failed to meet the national average with rates of 38 percent and 35
percent, respectively. According to a release by the U.S. Census
Bureau, taxpayers save an extra $85 million for every percentage point
increase in participation. [SFBJ]
