Hotels eliminating tennis courts for more profitable uses

South Florida hotels are increasingly moving away from tennis courts,
instead focusing on uses of space that raise more money, like pools.
Walter Banks of the Lago Mar hotel in Fort Lauderdale, said he was
thinking about removing two courts to put in another pool. The
Fontainebleau has not had a tennis court for several years. And for
many of the tennis pros playing at this week’s Sony Ericsson Open
choosing to stay at Coconut Grove hotels, tournament organizers had to
find them space at local high school Ransom Everglades to practice.
Even so, American tennis play has risen 43 percent since 2000. [Miami Herald]
