The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s official economic development
partnership, is wooing an undisclosed company proposing a
“merchandise-mart”-style initiative in the county. The project would
include warehouse and office space focusing on Asian manufacturers.
Last week, Miami-Dade County commissioners gave the nod to an incentive
for the firm of nearly $200,000. Miami is attractive because of its
position as the gateway to the Americas, according to the head of WTDC,
a logistics company. Officials say the project could look at the
Opa-Locka Airport region, which has been targeted for years. [Miami Today]
