Remove foreclosures from courts? House committee says no

The Florida House’s Criminal & Civil Justice Policy Council chose
not to hear a proposed bill that would take foreclosures out of thes
state’s clogged court system. HB 1523 would give banks the opportunity
to forego proceedings in court except if the borrower asks for a
judicial foreclosure process. The House bill would have mandated the
bank to meet with the foreclosed homeowner if asked. Under the plan,
however, if homeowners acted in good faith during the foreclosure, they
would not have to pay the remaining balance on their loans. Some House
members say the bill is not dead yet, with a few procedural options
remaining to get the bill heard. [Palm
