T. Willard Fair, president of the Urban League of Greater Miami, has been accused of violating the Fair Housing Act for his refusal to make an apartment wheelchair-compatible for a disable Vietnam veteran, according to the Miami Herald. According to the charges, a social worker had asked the management company at Covenant Palms Apartments, located at 8400 Northwest 25th Avenue, to make the apartment accessible for the veteran, a 71-year-old amputee who uses a wheelchair. The veteran was relocated to another apartment while his apartment was supposed to be retrofitted, but when he returned, in January 2008, the stove had been removed and it was not wheelchair-accessible. Fair was accused along with the Urban League Housing Corp. of Greater Miami and the management company by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
