The proposed demolition of the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater has neighbors riled over the loss of their community’s live music venue. The performance space is slated to be torn down to make way for an expansion of the Miami Beach convention center under a plan that the committee overseeing the project is favoring. A workshop is planned for May 13 to hear public reactions, and meanwhile, more than 1,800 have joined the “Save the Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theater” Facebook page in protest. [Miami Herald]
