Oil slick could hit Palm Beach

There is growing concern that oil gushing from the Gulf of Mexico due
to the BP spill could ride the gulf stream up the Atlantic Coast and
into Palm Beach County, experts say. The oil spew has continued for two
weeks in the Gulf after a rig explosion. The Gulf Loop, the portion of
the gulf stream around the Gulf of Mexico, could bring warm water from
the Tropics into the Atlantic. George Maul, the head of the Department
of Marine Environmental Systems at the Florida Institute of Technology, said a past experiment had seen a buoy brought from the Gulf of Mexico
to the St. Lucie inlet. [Palm Beach Post]
