West Palm Beach committee will vote on McMansion limits

Three years after West Palm Beach residents formed a committee to stop
the spread of McMansions in the city, a city advisor committee could
vote tomorrow on proposed limitations on home sizes in 14 historic
neighborhoods. The ordinance, if passed, would create a maximum ratio
of home size to lot size depending on a particular neighborhood’s
character. Supporters say the ordinance is popular with residents of
the historic districts, however zoning attorney Harvey Oyer said it could have
potentially negative consequences on property values, and that many of
the existing historic buildings would not have met the standards
imposed by the ordinance. [Palm Beach Post]
