Two sentenced for land sale fraud

U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer

Daniel Stephen, 43, of Miramar, and Patricia de Pons, 53, of Miami
Shores have been sentenced for their roles in a fraudulent land sale
scheme to sell vacant land to more than 1,000 victims, U.S. Attorney
Wifredo Ferrer announced yesterday. U.S. District Court Judge Jose
Martinez sentenced Stephen to 240 months in prison, followed by three
years of supervised release, and De Pons was sentenced to 151 months in
prison, similarly followed by three years of supervised release. The
scheme involved selling one-acre tracts of land through First Loan
Solution, a company owned operated by Daniel Stephen. Stephen did not
own the land he was selling, however. He hired De Pons, an attorney, to
act as closing and escrow agent. TRD
